I burned my first Blu-ray disk the other day using Nero on a Sony VGN-FZ283BN laptop. I wanted Fear & Loathing, but it’s only offered in HD-DVD at this time. Fear & Loathing is owned by Universal which only supports HD-DVD. Stupid format wars! Whatever. I just tested the drive to see if it worked and it was slow as hell right out of the box! What a great way to waste a $30 disc.

Special thanks to A.J. Pietraszewski for sponsoring this useless blog post.
The hype is now finally tested by a real live person. There isn’t anything better than the satisfaction of seeing Blu-ray in action.
However based on the speeds that they burn it is still too slow for anything to be determined. Many writers out there don’t live up to their specification. Some examples of notebooks with internal bluray recorders have the drive functioning in PIO mode and not DMA which craps out the speeds of the data being recorded to the medium.
Maybe in another 6 months another test needs to be made to see if there is any improvement of this new technology. In the meantime this just reminds me of when I first got my Pioneer DVR-A04 2x DVD-R drive. Man those bring back memories…. so nostalgic!
Its about fuckin time you got into blu-ray. Did you buy an hdtv yet.
Man that makes me think of those first dvd hell cd burns o memories. You might say you could have a PARTY while we waited
no I didnt buy an HDTV and have no plans on it. I’m gonna install an HD projector this summer though.
Thats good stuff i will certainly stop by and see it.
Thanks for the special mention. Too bad it was so slow… What ever the case, Ill wont get a blue Ray burner anytime soon.
2.4G on a 24Gbyte disk seems a waste of space! Led TV’s are around the corner and will blow away all the others. I still use LCD though.
