To Disable Services in Windows XP, do this:

1)  Click Start, then select Run from the Start Menu.

2)  Type in "services.msc" (without quotes), then Click OK or press Enter.

3)  Right-Click on the Service you want to disable, then Click Properties.

4)  Select "Disabled" from the dropdown next to "Startup Type" in the Service Properties dialog, then Click OK or press Enter.

Thats it!  The Service is disabled.  Repeat Steps 1 through 4 to disable additional services, or to change a Service’s Startup type back to Manual or Automatic.
